Biology Curriculum - Big Beaver Falls High School

Project Description

The science department (4 teachers) was tasked with deconstructing the science standards and developing curricular units for the following courses: Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The curriculum was formally written only for the general level courses. One teacher was assigned per course. Collaboration occurred via discussion as needed. 

The district's consultant, Dr. Jeri Thompson, provided the templates, guidance, and editing to the curriculum units and standardized performance tasks. 

The iteration of the curriculum presented here is as of February 2022. At the time, the district had not adopted the NGSS standards and was working under the PA Academic standards and Common Core. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Deconstructed the PA Science Standards that correlated to Biology content and assessment anchors

Developed Biology curriculum units based on the deconstructed standards

Developed standardized performance tasks for assessment of content and informative writing

Developed the content portion of the assessment rubrics for the performance tasks

Collaborated with peers and the district's consultant in the development of curriculum units.
